We want everyone to be able to use maresandmakers.co.uk, whatever device they are on and whatever they need to browse comfortably. This statement sets out where we are, honestly.
Our commitment
As a service provider we have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA as our working standard.
What we have built in
- The site works on phones, tablets and desktops, and reflows without horizontal scrolling.
- Menus, buttons, forms and pop-ups can be operated with a keyboard, and the pop-up closes with the Escape key.
- Interactive controls carry descriptive labels for screen readers, and decorative images are hidden from them.
- Meaningful images have alternative text describing what they show.
- Headings run in a logical order so screen-reader users can navigate by structure.
- Body text can be enlarged using your browser’s zoom without content being lost.
- Text sits on backgrounds chosen for contrast, and colour is not the only way information is conveyed.
Known limitations
We are a small business and this site is a work in progress. We are aware that:
- Some decorative text set in uppercase display type can be harder to read for some people.
- Parts of the site use motion and hover effects; if your device or browser is set to reduce motion, some of these may still animate.
- Some images in the product previews contain text within the image itself, which a screen reader cannot read beyond the alternative text we have written.
- Content we link to on third-party platforms is outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
We fix issues as we find them and review the site periodically.
